VILLAGE MINISTRY
For the past week and a half, I have spent time in the village of Bugira where Lily has planted her Mission House. This experience has really opened my eyes to see how blessed we are back in the states. Many times we take for granted how accessible things are from home. We have become very impatient and always feel the need for instant gratification. I came not knowing what to expect, but my heart just broke at the sight of poverty in this beautiful country. Many children lack basic needs, making it very difficult to sustain a normal, healthy life. Children in Bugira are malnourished, which causes their abdomens to extend, yet through it all they are still filled with joy.
One of the many ministries Lily has begun here in Bugira is Village Ministry. Each day we visit families, tell them about Jesus and hand out basic needs such as clothing. The joy on the peoples faces is indescribable! These experiences have really made me stop and think; life is not all about us and being comfortable where we are. I think God brings us through trials in life to see how big He really is and to realize that without Him we are nothing. It has really made me rethink the direction in my life and what I am doing for God's kingdom. I have come to realize those earthly things mean nothing, yet we are so attached and scared to let them go. One step and one seed at a time, God can make something bigger than we could even imagine. It's just a matter of faith and trust. Philippians 1:6 says, "being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it".
